Folksong and Adventurers….

Bright and extremely breezy here today, but at least it’s not raining….we’ve had buckets of it every night though.

I’m working extra hours the weeks around the half term so I can take the week off, downside of a new job….no accrued holiday, so extra days for 3 weeks so I can take the days off for the half term week.

The kiddiewinks and I went shopping into York last Saturday, it was bright and sunny….but very chilly, but it was pleasant wandering around the shops, young man wanted some headphones for his tablet and the little miss chose a craft kit to make masquerade masks…a half term project! Of course I could not come home empty handed…I headed into my LYS Knit & Stitch, they have so many lovely yarns, I could do severe damage to my bank balance….I wanted to make myself a cowl and some wrist warmers…I chose Sirdar Folksong Chunky….this yarn was in the sale and the colours are fantastic…it’s a wool and acrylic 50/50 mix and hooks up a treat…the cowl and 1 wristie are complete…the second one I need to finish…

Whilst we were wandering we passed another one of York’s historic treasures…I remembered to take pictures for you all…

My bargain tete a tete is flowering beautifully now….50p for pretty sunshine everyday….worth every penny!

During my mammoth bake off for the Rainbow’s church coffee morning last Sunday my extremely old weighwatchers scales decided to go to scales heaven….I had to do some guess work but the cakes turned out great. But this did mean a new pair of scales were required…I knew what I wanted a vintage style, I was lucky enough to discover these beauties in Wilkos yesterday…they have pink, red, minty green and lime….I chose the minty green…

I LOVE them so much!!

I also picked this up yesterday….it’s a super magazine with all kinds of craft projects, some which are childfriendly too….I’ve already earmarked about 7 projects so far….not including the cute mouse on the cover….

Finally….I finally finished a new blooming flower cushion for my sofa….it’s been an on and off project since before Christmas..

Naughty November

It is you know….naughty…it snuck on me from nowhere and here we are day 5 of it already…well what a busy month October was…my studies began on the 5th, 2 modules at once approximately 26 hours a week….arghhhh…why? I did wonder, but I have to tell you all, I am loving it, thank goodness I changed degree path to follow religious studies, it’s totally right ‘up my street’.

Anyway onwards to the 10th…my 42nd (more arghhhs!) birthday, I had a lovely day, was totally spoilt with lots of messages, cards and gifts…

Onwards a little more…..I have been very busy crafting but it’s all for Christmas so I can’t really share apart from 2 little treasures…

Halloween…..my big ghoul and little witch trick or treated the neighbourhood to within an inch of it’s life…

My young chap became a fully invested cub…

Diabetes news, my blood sugars have dropped by 13 points to an almost acceptable level, so no medication required at the moment….and finally…yes….finally MY BIG NEWS….no I’m not having another baby…lol, after 5 years of being a stay at home mum….I am finally returning to the workforce….partly because I wanted to and partly because in the UK if you are a single parent as soon as your youngest child hits 5 (Martha does in November) the government ‘force’ you back to work….anyway…I will be working 3 days a week around school runs as a marketing executive for an IT distribution company…it’s local and they are keen to work with and around me for my kids…which is very lucky…I start next week….so with 26 hours study, 18 hours of work and the rest of my daily stuff…I may not be around for a while….

All good stuff though eh….worth the waffle…..

Happy 2013

Wow it seems ages since I last posted, I have had some time away from my pc and my study books….although I am now finding it difficult to get back into it and with a 2000 word essay due in next week I really must ‘get my finger out’!

We spent our Christmas very quietly, Christmas Day was spent at my parents house….the kiddiewinks had a fabulous time playing with new toys….

They spent Boxing Day with their dad so I had a relaxing day at home….and did some crochet….I have quite a few projects now nearing completion…..My stripey blanket needs an edging on it as this was my first big project and the edges are slightly wonky so I have hemmed them and have some apple green felt which matches perfectly with the green stripe which I am going to trim the blanket with….

Plus 2 cushion fronts, they both need a few extra rows to make them the correct size, I am using the same green felt to make the backings for these too…

I decided that the living room needed a bit of a change around and sort out…..I took a trip to Dunelm Mill and Matalan last weekend and bought a few bits and bobs….and spent the past 2 days shifting furniture, dismantling and changing everything around……here is the result…I made the crochet garland last night….very simple with cream chunky yarn and natural twine….I think it fits perfectly…

I have committed to one stitchy SAL this year, which is the LHN Sheep Virtues, I have decided to not over commit myself on projects this year…..once my exam is over with in June I will have a long break as my next module will not start until November so I can enjoy a crafty summer this year! I am also going to choose a couple of larger projects which I can pick up and do during the year, once I have decided on these I will share them.

Just a few other little things which have made me smile this week….my new basket for my hooky projects, the picture is deceiving it is as big as a bucket….a steal at £2.50….also another £2.50 steal is this floral watering can which fits perfectly on my kitchen window sill…Issue 1 one of the new Simply Crochet magazine which dropped through my letterbox yesterday….

and finally these little monkeys who drive me to distraction most days…but are also so loving and caring too…
