Soggy Sunday…

It’s terrible here today as it has been for the past 2 weeks….nasty rain, freezing cold and windy….luckily the rain was only light when I set off to church, it started pouring down again when we were in Mass…luckily my Dad gave us a lift home otherwise we would have been well and truly soaked through :0(

It was little man’s 8th birthday on Friday….he had a good day, received presents, had a friend over for tea…pizza and chocolate cake by request! Yesterday he went shopping with my parents to choose his presents….a pair of big boy trainers and some clothes!

As the kids went with my parents yesterday, I had a childfree day to do some “stuff”, a quick trip into town to buy some cotton tape for my bunting for the kitchen, some toiletries and I found this bargain clock too….perfect for my kitchen…and a bargain at £3.99!

470705_10150693556102167_667832166_9666207_1198627600_o

I spent a couple of hours in the afternoon putting some notes together for my final assignment…I am finding the subject of Sacred Places totally fascinating!

I then finished cutting out my bunting triangles and stitched up all 28, turned them the right way and pressed them all, so they are all ready to attach to the tape now!

I also finished up my knitted tea cosy…I used a free pattern from Lily….I’m pleased how it’s turned out!

and finally….I finished up my kitchen windows the other day…the light isn’t and hasn’t been good…but it gives you an idea….

Suffolk Puffs and Other Stuff!

The weekend just flew by, with not too much achieved, I managed a little amount of study on Saturday afternoon, I’m now onto the next chapter….ancient medicine! I’m awaiting the scores back from my last assignment on Benin, they should be in any day now….finger’s crossed!

I needed a bag to carry my textbooks to my tutorials, but funds are limited at the present time so I remembered I had a free Cath Kidston Canvas Tote which came with her Make book, so I set to making some Suffolk puffs yesterday and attached them to the bag…and here is what I can proudly carry my books to classes in now…

The End of A Long & Busy Week…

Wow it’s been one of those stinkers of a week, I have been feeling dreadful, with the most awful headaches, backache and generally feeling rotten, I finally managed to get an appointment with the GP yesterday…getting an appointment at my surgery is nigh on impossible, anyway I had the full check over, prodded, poked, everything tested and looked at….anyway I have a viral infection….which in layman’s terms I took to mean “we have obviously no idea what is wrong with you!”, they prescribed rest…yeah right, being on my own with a 7 and 3 year old….as if that is going to happen!

Anyway, the backache has slightly decreased today, I still have a headache…I had my eyes tested just before Christmas so I know that isn’t the problem, so I will just have to “sit it out” and see what happens.

I managed to submit my next assignment on Wednesday, 1500 words split into two assignments one about a Benin bronze artefact and and the other on museum displays…mmmm exciting eh!

Well…..onto nicer stitchy and knitty stuff, the kids were at their Dad’s last weekend so once I had done my daily 4 hours of study I managed some knitting and stitching, firstly 3 washcloths…3 different patterns, a garter striped one, a stocking and garter stitch square and a box waffle type one, all knitted in Lily Sugar & Cream.

456427_10150573917422167_667832166_9285659_217409530_o

I have been mainly working on larger projects and I was getting the finish itch, so I kitted up a few smalls, that I could finish quickly to satisfy my craving for a finish or two..

Talking of SAL’s. Michelle and I start our new one this evening, we will stitch every Friday on it, we are stitching BBD Ann’s Sewing Tray, from the Schoolgirls Work book.

I also sent out the first of my private exchanges for the year to Mouse, I will reveal it when it arrives safely to Mousehouse :0)

Finally….(thank goodness I hear you say!), it was World Book Day yesterday and Martha had to dress up for nursery as a storybook character…she decided she would be Snow White for the day…

….also Isaac was delighted this week as he received a reply to a letter he sent to Julia Donaldson (author of The Gruffalo), it was handwritten by her and she answered all the questions…how fantastic eh!

Well thanks for reading and if you have got this far…you are certainly doing well!

Have a great weekend whatever you do!

A Friday First

I completed the stitching on my Little Roses piece on Tuesday evening and decided on a new finish for me….a cube finish, I bought all the supplies on Wednesday, I used sponge as I couldn’t get polystyrene blocks anywhere and it has come out great…

I couple more washcloths were also knitted, these are for the children for bath and shower time….I used a different pattern this time to make it striped, I get all my patterns from Ravelry, bet you can’t guess which one is for which….lol!

I received a lovely envelope in the post yesterday from Chris, I commented on how lovely one of her finishes was and where I could find the chart….she very kindly said I could have the chart as she would not stitch it again…not only did she send the chart but also the remaining threads and a pretty card. Stitchers are so thoughtful and kind, it has amazed me through my last 5 years of blogging how many wonderful stitching friends I have “met” and met!

Yarn, Dishcloths & Little Roses!

Quite a quiet week here, the snow and bitterly cold weather put paid to most plans. I had had a rotten cold most of the week and have suffered from a severe ache in my right shoulder and neck due to buggy pushing in the snow. Due to this I haven’t done much stitching as it seemed to lock up my shoulder and arm after about an hour, I have managed a little progress on the gift I am stitching for my Mum for Mother’s Day, it’s a good job I started this early at the speed I’m going..I have had this Windy Willows freebie in my chart to do pile for ages, I thought it would be perfect for my Mum.

341267_10150535458062167_667832166_9169571_2055925164_o

I have managed to do some knitting on an evening, it doesn't seem to effect my shoulder..I have completed 3 dishcloths, two with Lily Sugar & Cream cotton yarn, one in garter stitch and one in garter and stocking stitch and the other a blue and white striped one in garter stitch.

327644_10150535459842167_667832166_9169573_116483766_o

I ordered some more yarn which arrived yesterday, I do love this Lily Sugar and Cream yarn, such pretty colours and easy to knit with :0)

414897_10150535457177167_667832166_9169568_1924908829_o

I have spent the weekend studying as it’s half-term this coming week, so not much time for reading etc. I am now on the third book of four in this module; Cultural Encounters, the current chapters are about Benin, it’s colonisation by the British and it’s famous bronzes. I must say if nothing else has come from this module, it has certainly opened up my eyes to things that have happened in history and has changed my views on many things too.

The children are at their Dad’s this weekend are are due back later this afternoon, so I am going to spend a few hours watching TV and stitching! Enjoy the rest of your Sunday!

Frosty Friday!

Its cold and frosty here this morning, but lovely and sunny and bright….I have the time to update my blog this morning as my kitchen is currently out of bounds due to the decorator being in there…wallpapering as I type!

I have managed some progress on two of my WIPs and my current UFO, plus I have knitted up another dishcloth.

Firstly my progress on my Witch School Sampler, which I am stitching as my SAL piece for the Sampler Girl SAL over at Needlecraft Haven, I have had quite a slow start on this one….but completed most of the dress on Wednesday evening so I am finally off and running!

340457_10150500333542167_667832166_9072011_1463315002_o

Secondly Milady’s Needle “A Gift From A Friend” this chart was gifted to me at Christmas by my wonderful friend Michelle, I stitched this Sunday evening whilst enjoying Call the Midwife and Birdsong.

397134_10150492396197167_667832166_9049353_625830668_n

Tuesday Evening is my UFO stitching evening, I re-started LHN Prairie Moon Sampler, I had forgotten what a lovely stitch it is, I have swapped some of the thread colours around slightly…

404938_10150493906967167_667832166_9054665_276120881_n

I knitted up another dishcloth, I used Lily’s Sugar & Cream cotton yarn…the colours are divine….I will have lots of lovely new dishcloths for my lovely new kitchen :0)

339257_10150496653962167_667832166_9062861_1574365241_o

I spend some time researching for my next Uni assignment, it’s a bigger essay this time on one particular subject, something to get my teeth stuck into…as they say. I am struggling where to start on it to be honest but this evening I think I will just start writing and see how I get on, often that’s my trouble it’s just the getting started, once I’m off then it does flow…finger’s crossed anyhow!

I hope to be back sometime early next week, if I don;t get lost under all my notes…lol

Have a great weekend!

Dishcloths, Teacups and Churches!

I have been busy knitting up some dishcloths this past week, these ones are knitted with some Debbie Bliss cotton I had in my yarn box…
321876_10150486500827167_667832166_9030077_745520856_o324803_10150486502642167_667832166_9030082_1016726115_o326040_10150486499702167_667832166_9030074_1671731774_o
I treated myself to these this week…..scrummy colours almost good enough to eat :0)!
329721_10150485900997167_667832166_9028635_826907804_o
and also this….but it is not for drinking my tea out of, I am going to make a teacup pincushion, I have found the rose design, so I will kit that up later today…
331166_10150485906687167_667832166_9028655_356828482_o
A new stitchy start was made this week…CCN “Sheep in the Meadow”
333601_10150486508637167_667832166_9030119_1368266471_o
I spent Thursday sitting in a coffee shop reading my study text books and visiting a medieval church…the church The Holy Trinity, has been on the site since the 11th Century, but the building you see dates from 15th Century, it’s so beautiful and quiet inside…if you want to find out more read here or the Churches Conservation Trust has information too.
321807_10150484346787167_667832166_9024516_1186909349_o323750_10150484346097167_667832166_9024515_1620637536_o329868_10150484343147167_667832166_9024510_762702273_o340196_10150484349872167_667832166_9024520_117997108_o
Not much more to show, I have some studying on Dmitri Shostakovich the Russian Composer to do this afternoon, an afternoon spent listening to music….I am working on my next assignment which is a big one so I may not be around for a few weeks. I received my score for my last assignment and got 21 marks above the pass mark, so it’s going in the right direction…up…up…up!
I hope to have time to do some stitching later too…enjoy your weekend and thanks to all my readers, commenters and followers!
